Tempura Sansada: Japan’s Oldest Tempura Restaurant, Beside Kaminarimon Gate
Founded in 1837, Sansada is widely cited as Japan's oldest dedicated tempura restaurant, standing immediately beside Kaminarimon Gate on Asakusa's main approach to Senso-ji Temple. The kitchen follows the Edo-style method of frying in sesame oil, and photo menus are available in both English and Thai, making it one of the more approachable historic options for overseas visitors.
Table service is used throughout, and reservations are accepted for evening seatings (from 16:00) by phone.
