mumokuteki cafe KYOTO: Plant-Based Set Meals and Sweets Near Kawaramachi, English Menu

mumokuteki cafe KYOTO is a cafe on the second floor of the Human Forum Building in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. Its official site says it uses absolutely no animal-derived ingredients, and that it does not use eggs, dairy products, refined sugar, meat, fish or chemical seasonings.

The menu centers on set meals (gozen). The official site lists a Tofu Hamburger Set, an Okaraage Set (fried okara) and a miso cutlet set (1,800 yen each), a steamed seasonal vegetable set (2,500 yen) and a sesame miso soy milk ramen set (2,000 yen), along with a Creamy Yuba Omurice (1,700 yen), tiramisu (950 yen) and soy milk soft serve (650 yen). Some dishes are gluten-free, but the official site notes that the kitchen is not dedicated to gluten-free cooking, so cross-contact with wheat is possible.

It is a 5-minute walk from both Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the subway Tozai Line and Kyoto Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Line. It is open from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM (last order 7:00 PM) and closed on Wednesdays. There are English and Chinese menus, and you can pay by credit card, transit IC card, PayPay and more. Table reservations are taken online. When it is busy, you may be asked to keep your visit to an hour and a half.
