Ippodo Tea Aoyama: A Kyoto Tea Merchant’s Tea Room, 8 Minutes From Omotesando Station
Ippodo Tea traces its origins to Omi-ya, a shop founded in Kyoto in 1717, and received the name Ippodo in 1846. Its Kyoto main store is on Teramachi-dori at Nijo. The Aoyama shop, opened on August 29, 2025, has a retail floor and a tea room on the second floor of a building along the road from Omotesando Station toward the Nezu Museum. It is an 8-minute walk from Exit A5 of Omotesando Station on the Tokyo Metro.
According to the official site, the tea room (21 seats) serves koicha (thick matcha), usucha (thin matcha), gyokuro, sencha, premium hojicha and iri-bancha with a sweet, and its menu lets you try different ways of brewing tea. There is also a light meal called mushi-yashinai, served with tea: dashi inari from Umiki on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and toast and jam from the bakery Shiomi on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. A short matcha-whisking workshop is offered by advance booking through the tea room reservation site. Takeout drinks include matcha (972 yen) and matcha latte (1,080 yen). Prices include tax and can change.
The shop and tea room are both open 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (tea room last order 5:30 PM) and closed on Mondays. Tea room reservations are accepted. Payment is by credit card, transit IC card or smartphone payment; cash is not accepted. So that guests can enjoy the aroma of the tea, the tea room asks visitors to avoid strong scents such as perfume and hand cream.
