Chitose Honten: The Birthplace of Niku-sui Near Namba
Chitose Honten is a small udon shop in the Namba Sennichimae backstreets credited as the birthplace of niku-sui, a beef-broth soup essentially a niku udon served without the noodles. The signature niku-sui costs around 800 yen, and the same broth is also served with noodles added as niku udon. The dish has since spread well beyond this one shop, and versions of niku-sui are now served at a number of other eateries around Osaka. It's a small, counter-focused shop with no confirmed official website or English menu, so visitors should be prepared to order in basic Japanese.
