Shinsekai ・ Kushikatsu (Deep-Fried Skewers)

Kushikatsu Daruma, Shinsekai Main Store: Osaka’s Legendary Kushikatsu Since 1929

Kushikatsu Daruma traces back to 1929 in Shinsekai, where it originally opened under the name Kushikatsu Takohichi before a second-generation owner renamed it Daruma. The shop is one of the places credited with popularizing kushikatsu's best-known rule of etiquette: dipping a skewer into the shared sauce pot only once, since a second dip after biting into the skewer is considered unsanitary for other diners. With roughly 40 kinds of deep-fried skewers on the picture menu at around 110-143 yen apiece, it remains one of the most recognizable kushikatsu addresses in the Tsutenkaku Tower area.
